Bride Holly’s “red carpet event” was in autumn and held at the picturesque Woodlands Inn. We asked “Fashion Stylist” Gown Boutique of Charleston, what Holly’s style is like and they said, “That of a classic Charleston bride. She wanted something timeless and romantic.” Holly effortlessly nails it in her Augusta Jones Gown, and exudes a subtle sexiness with this fit trumpet silhouette and sheer illusion back.
The fun and outgoing Melissa brought the glitz and glam to her Pepper Plantation “Soir.” Her Stella York gown was a perfect choice with the champagne color, metallic stitching, and flowy skirt that gives an earthy ethereal feel. Again,“Fashion Stylist”, Gown Boutique of Charleston gave us the scoop on Melissa’s wedding day look saying, “She trusted us to do a completely customized strap which turned out fantastic. She was so happy with the finished product.” As Red Carpet Hosts, we wholeheartedly agree! The custom strap is delightful, and you can plainly see the happiness Melissa projects. She is a perfect 10!
Andrea’s gorgeous “gala” took place at the historic Magnolia Plantation & Gardens on a faultless spring day. Her Gown of choice was the first one she’d tried on and she absolutely loved it! Andrea did try a few others but she knew they didn’t stack up to the Pronovias Gown. Gown Boutique of Charleston describes her look as, “ fun, flirty, & youthful. A modern princess.” Andrea’s wedding was nothing short of a fairytale, and her dreamy dress helped her to that happily ever after!
Each bride should feel like a star on her wedding day and these beautiful brides are stellar indeed. It’s been fun reviewing and admiring their wedding day looks like that of a red carpet host and asking, “Who are you wearing? ” We hope everyone enjoyed it too! Thank you to the brides and to Gown Boutique of Charleston! As a Charleston Wedding Photographer, seeing different amazing places and getting to take in wonderful experiences, comes with the pleasure of capturing a couple’s union. The wedding of Lauren and Jason provided attendees with the chance to admire an exquisite Charleston location, and enjoy a very special experience. What was most prized by all, however, was the opportunity the day gave for each person to show their love and celebrate the sweet couple!
Lauren and Jason adore Charleston South Carolina and always knew they wanted to have their wedding in this city so rich in history and beauty. They selected the Rice Mill , a handsome waterfront property built in 1861, as their wedding venue. Remarkably restored, the event space has old world charm and breathtaking views, which provided the ideal framework for Lauren and Jason’s springtime wedding. Wedding details in vibrant sapphire blue & crisp white, and a few peacock feather accents perfectly complimented the setting for what was a fabulous affair. You just couldn’t help but love everything!
When asked about the favorite parts of their wedding, bride Lauren said, “It is impossible to just pick one thing! (But one of) my favorite part(s) of our wedding day was the pure happiness, joy and fun that was every part of the ceremony and reception. It meant more to Jason and I than anything to have all of our family and friends in one place, having a great time, and celebrating life. All we ever wanted was for everyone to have a lot of fun and to have a huge party. I think we definitely succeeded!” We can’t thank these two enough for such a fantastic experience at a gorgeous site on their wedding day. With these images, we wish to express our love and celebrate Lauren and Jason!
It’s so fun to see the different approaches to a marriage proposal. Modest and heartfelt, silly and sweet, private and romantic, over-the-top and grand; these are a few ways you could execute your proposal. No matter what though, it is always special for each couple! There’s no comparison to this thrilling once-in-a-lifetime moment! That is why when you’ve decided to pop THE big question, proposal photography should be included in your plans. The two of you will LOVE having those priceless images of such a special day and be admired for generations to come. Jason requested Valerie & Co. Photographers capture his incredible beach boat & fireworks proposal in Charleston to Lauren and she just adores sharing their awesome story!
Lauren recalled, “As Jason and I transitioned to yet another new house, we had been crashing with a close friend and living out of boxes. My mom, being the caring mother that she is, managed to convince me that Jason and I both deserve a mini-vacation and that her and my dad had rented a condo on Isle of Palms for the two of us to stay at while we were in town for a family wedding. Initially, I protested because the last thing I wanted to do was pack for a vacation in the midst of living out of boxes, but I knew that Jason had been extra stressed at work and needed a break so I accepted my parent’s generous offer.”
“Our condo had its own private pier and we stopped there first to take in the view. Because I did not have my purse and it looked like rain, I asked Jason if I could put my cellphone in his pocket. Thinking nothing of it, I went to slide it into his pocket and he nearly slapped it out of my hand and into the ocean. I remember thinking that was really odd but just figured he was tired of always having to hold all of my stuff. I didn’t blame him too much because I am always asking him to hold my things. I started getting anxious about the storm and wanted to get our stroll on the beach started so we could get back before the rain.”
Rain can make for very romantic images, but Lauren had no idea what was about to happen and that Jason planned this incredible beach boat & fireworks proposal in Charleston for her! She said, “As we started walking, Jason pointed out that we were close to the spot where we had first said ‘I love you’ and we began reminiscing on our relationship and the past. Before I could get my next thought out, Jason drew my attention to a boat in the distance. Instantly, I was terrified because I was sure they would capsize in the waves the encroaching storm was producing. As the boat got closer it became more familiar to me and I remember asking Jason if the boat was the same as my brother’s. I was confused because I knew my brother had been out on his boat that day, but I didn’t know why on earth he would come over to Isle of Palms in the terrible weather. At this point, I was convinced that Jason and I would have to save whoever these crazy people were on that boat!”
“The boat finally got close enough for me to realize that this really was my brother’s boat! And those crazy people; they were my mom, my dad, and my brother. About the time that I came to this realization, a banner unrolled on the boat that read, ‘Lauren, Will You Marry me?’ and instantly I was in shock. I turned around to look at Jason and he was down on one knee with a beautiful, engraved ring box. I was in tears; I could not believe what was happening! In fact, Jason likes to tell everyone that I actually backpedaled in shock at first, but I don’t remember any of that. If you asked me exactly what Jason said in that moment, I honestly couldn’t tell you but I do remember hearing him say that he loved me more than anything in world and that he wanted to spend the rest of our lives together, followed by the four most amazing words I have ever heard, ‘Will you marry me?’ I couldn’t even muster up enough composure to actually say yes, but I think he knew my answer when I threw my arms around his neck, kissed him, and didn’t let go! Jason slipped the most gorgeous ring onto my finger and as he did I heard the sound of fireworks. I turned back towards the ocean to catch the beautiful firework display coming from my brother’s boat! But the surprises were not over just yet!”
As it turns out, our studio was not only in on the surprise for Jason’s already incredible beach boat & fireworks proposal in Charleston, but we learned we were also to be a part of the surprise! Lauren continues on saying, “As I watched in astonishment, and still in complete shock, Jason whispered to me that my favorite photographer was on the pier and had caught this amazing moment for us to cherish forever! We even managed to sneak in a quick portrait session before the rain downpour began. And boy did it pour! Even with the rain, everything about the day was absolutely perfect and was everything I had ever dreamed for!”
What a compliment knowing Lauren so admires Valerie & Co. Photographers and we are very glad Jason thought to include us. For our studio, really what’s most touching is the honor of having been a part of the sweet story of their engagement and documenting everything! If we had to describe Jason and Lauren’s incredible beach boat & fireworks proposal in Charleston, it would be heartfelt, over-the-top, and, of course, very special 🙂 Valerie & Co. Photographers would love to capture your special story for YOU too!

A Real Celebration! | Charleston Wedding Photographer | Melissa and Beau’s Pepper Plantation Wedding
Spring Blossoms and Blooming Love | Brittany & Sergio at Magnolia Plantation and Gardens | Charleston Wedding Photographer
Valerie and Co. Photographers love a good love story and we’re happy to share that of Sergio and Brittany’s! We just couldn’t have been happier to be the Charleston Wedding Photographer for this super cute couple.
Their story starts in high school and Brittany tells the it like this, “We met at Brewbaker Junior High School in Montgomery, AL in 2001 at age 15. I was a cheerleader and Sergio played sports. It was Sergio who initiated our actual contact by asking if he could see my sunglasses. After getting my glasses, he took off running in hopes that I would chase him, and of course I did. To get my sunglasses back I had to kiss his cheek and of course, I did that too. It was fun innocent flirting which led to us becoming great friends.”
Their young love grew and Brittany and Sergio dated until the day he was ready to pop the question in 2013! Brittany believed that Sergio was in Augusta, GA celebrating Christmas with his family and she was with all her family in Alabama. While Brittany was enjoying this rare family reunion with her loved ones, Sergio surprised everyone (except Brittany’s little brother and her father who were in on the surprise) by showing up on Christmas Day. Brittany and her family were overjoyed with Sergio’s arrival. They all settled in a bit, continued with their Christmas celebration, and that’s when Sergio was ready to present his second Christmas surprise by getting down on one knee and asking Brittany to be his wife! With little brothers’ camera rolling, and family all around, they captured the happy proposal and Brittany’s gleeful, “YES!”
Valerie and Co. Photographers had the pleasure of doing a photo session in March of 2015 at the gorgeous Magnolia Plantation and Gardens after Brittany & Sergio’s private wedding at Royal Missionary Baptist Church.
Soon these two will be celebrating their 1st anniversary! We adored being their Charleston Wedding Photographer. Many thanks and congratulations from our hearts to Brittany and Sergio.

As Charleston photographers, we love nothing more than a Magnolia Garden Engagement Session! We had the honor of documenting such a beautiful and intimate moment with Mr. and Mrs. Hicks! Brittany and Sergio’s elopement turned out to be absolutely stunning! Blooming Azaleas around every corner and this sweet couple who couldn’t help but get lost in each others eyes.
Brittany and Sergio’s story is a perfect example of how distance makes the heart grow fonder. Several years of being apart in a long distance relationship, Brittany and Sergio were ready to tie the knot and found us at the Charleston Wedding Show. We proudly said yes to being their photographer! Here’s just a few of our favorites, but you could imagine how difficult it was to narrow them down! Congratulations Brittany and Sergio!
I absolutely adore being a Charleston wedding photographer because we are lucky to live in one of the most beautiful and popular cities for weddings in this country. I also love to travel and jump on the opportunity to do so as often as I can. Destination weddings are a favorite of mine because I get to combine two of my passions, travel and photography! I have photographed many destination weddings within the US and internationally as well. I have had the honor of photographing weddings in Berlin, Hawaii, St. Lucia, South Africa, and now Cancun, to name a few! Destination weddings come with their own sets of unique challenges that require a high level of professionalism and ability to commit to the job as photographer you were hired for–it is not the time to get lost in the wonder of the location and behave as if you are on simply on vacation. It is an incredible honor for a photographer to be hired for a destination wedding-especially when the clients happen to be part of your own family!
My first cousin, Shelly gave me the option of being her wedding photographer or a bridesmaid (which I’d totally love to be seeing as I experience most weddings from behind my camera). I decided that the best role I could play in my dear cousin’s wedding was that of her photographer. I was so excited to be able to help document one of the most important days of her life and provide her with images and memories from that day she and her family can cherish forever!
Shelly and Justin met in the Bay area of California and recently relocated to Austin, Texas for Shelly’s job. They are very driven people in their respective careers, and they both inspire and encourage each other in such an admirable way. These two truly bring out the best in each other in all aspects of their lives together. It is so exciting for these two to join together in marriage, and I and 40 guests were lucky to travel to beautiful Cancun, Mexico for their amazing destination wedding! It speaks volumes and is a testament to the character of Shelly and Justin that they even had a few friends who do not live in the United States who joined them in Cancun for their wedding!
The wedding and reception venue was the incredible, all-inclusive resort hotel, Azul Sensatori in Cancun, Mexico. Did I mention that it can be hard as a wedding vendor for a destination wedding to resist the temptation to go into “vacation-mode”? I knew I would have to forgo many of the perks of this irresistible and all-inclusive resort in order to stay focused on my job as Shelly’s wedding photographer. For this reason, during my commute from the airport to the resort and during the check-in process, I allowed myself to enjoy one delicious cocktail before stepping into my official role as photographer for the great majority of my short stay.
The wedding ceremony took place on a stunning rooftop terrace followed by a reception on the gorgeous beach. The weather on their wedding day was perfect, the amazing white sand, bright blue tropical water and sky were all perfectly accented by just the right amount of beautiful white clouds. The backdrop for their wedding day was serene and absolutely stunning to experience and capture with my camera.
The 40 guests in attendance were fun and relaxed, such a joy to photograph, and everyone had simply an amazing time celebrating this wonderful couple. It was an incredible honor to celebrate Shelly and Justin along with their wonderful family and friends who were able to make the trip to Cancun for their unforgettable destination wedding. As a Charleston wedding photographer who happens to have a great love for photography, travel and first and foremost my family, I can’t thank my cousin Shelly enough for the opportunity to celebrate and document her wedding day with my camera in beautiful Cancun, Mexico at the wonderful Azul Sensatori Resort!
This Cypress Gardens engagement session was sooooo much fun! First of all, Cypress Gardens is one of our favorite spots in all of Charleston! It’s a little bit of a drive out to Moncks Corner, especially with the bridge being out and having to take the detour, but it is so worth it! The park, swallowed up by tall trees, and the peace of the water and scenery of nature just can’t be beat!
Tabithia, Matt and Macon make such a sweet family. Like, melt-your-heart kind of sweetness. Tabithia and Matt’s love story is one of the rainbow after the storm, and there is such beauty in overcoming hard times. Hard times really do make or break a relationship and these two have truly found the real thing.
Here are a few of our favorites…but we can’t wait to share the rest! (We’re also excited to be their Charleston wedding photographer in October!)
Charleston Wedding Photography | Hampton Park Engagement Photos | Moncks Corner, SC | Brittany and Nick
One of our favorite things about Charleston Wedding Photography is engagement sessions! It’s a wonderful chance to get to know the bride-and-groom-to-be! We love hearing all about how they met, why they fell for each other, and what their hopes and dreams are for their future together. It’s also fun seeing them interact in their “uniquely them” sort of way. How they get each other. How they look at each other. We love love!
We already posted a preview of Brittany and Nick’s session at Hampton Park…but we had too many favorites for just one blog post! Which one do you like best?

This wedding. was. just. perfect! The weather was ideal, the couple is perfect for each other, two happy families and a hilarious bridal party that kept everyone smiling! We started off documenting Stacey’s details at her hotel room at the Jacob Bond House. (What a neat hotel! We totally recommend this for any Mt. Pleasant bride to get ready in no matter where your wedding is!)
We had a tiny rain shower, which we think was perfect for good luck! When it cleared up honestly we couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful, fun day. We are thrilled to have been a part of this Creek Club at I’On Wedding in Mount Pleasant and love sharing these images with you on our blog today!

Swoon. I have traveled a LOT in my lifetime. Through South America, South Africa and Southeast Asia. And I live in “The South”. (Guess some day I should do some “northern” exploring, huh?) And though I’ve seen some beautiful world wonders…there is NO place as beautiful as Middleton Place Plantation and Magnolia Gardens in the spring time. The last week of March and first week of April, to be exact.
Old oak trees dripping in Spanish moss, and bushes on fire with all colors of azaleas in bloom. Absolutely amazing.
Adding in a GORGEOUS BRIDE oh dear me, little else can even compare! Even though I was just a few weeks postpartum c-section, I was thrilled to get to do Michelle’s bridal portraits at Middleton Place Plantation! I love everything Middleton. (I also shoot Middleton Place weddings and have done engagements there recently as well!)
Here are a few of our favorites!

For this North Charleston engagement session…we chose the Old Navy Base in North Charleston, South Carolina. It’s such a huge place that we pretty much hopped around by car and did a “few pics here” and a “few more pics over there”. It was a perfect weather day, and Kristi and Derek were sooooooo much fun that umm…I got a little carried away and took way too many pictures! (I know, right, what a problem to have, too many awesome photos?! Shame on me! Haha.)
There are only a few good spots I’d choose for a North Charleston engagement session tho…and by far this one is my favorite. We started at Riverfront Park, and went from there. So much texture and unique spots to be found. For example, we did a few photos in an abandoned warehouse!

Here we are over a year later and we STILL are so in love with Hanna’s bridal session at RiverOaks in Awendaw! RiverOaks is one of our favorite wedding venues! It’s everything you could dream an outdoor waterfront Southern wedding could be. Right by the marsh with a dock into the Wando River! We were so excited to get to do Hanna’s bridal session there.
If your dream is a waterfront wedding, wedding by the marsh, or enjoy the water views for your guests, this is the perfect spot for you! Now all you need is an amazing Charleston Wedding Photographer…us, of course!
Isn’t Hanna the most stunning bride ever? And her dress! Swoon. Just perfect!
